I was born and raised in Santa Cruz County. My family and I moved to Texas for about four years and we learned so much. Texans have a business for everything- from scooping dog poop, to cleaning garbage cans.

One day, I was looking for yarn because knitting season had started. Through a google search I found an awesome creative reuse store. As I was wondering the aisles, I was mesmerized. I love thrift shopping- at least 75% of my family’s wardrobe comes from thrift stores. I love crafting. Creative reuse is this beautiful marriage of thrifting and crafting, with the added benefits of keeping materials out of the landfills and inspiring creativity at a low cost.

Growing up in Santa Cruz, there were always shops where you can buy craft materials. However, these shops can be expensive.

What do you do when you only need a small amount of an item?

What do you do if you want to try a Pinterest craft out, but do not want to spend a small fortune on it?

What do you do if you aren’t a crafty parent, but your kids want to make stuff?

This is why Bits-n-Bobs was created- to promote creative reuse in Santa Cruz County, keep materials out of the landfill, to offer low cost creative space for community members to create. Please join us. If you have materials to donate, please let us know. Learn more about our programs here.

I’m Sabrina. Most days of my life move fast. School mornings, sports schedules, packed calendars, kids in the backseat asking for snacks five minutes after we left the house. Life is full and loud and moving whether I’m ready or not. Forest Girl Farm is where I slow down. It’s the place I return to when everything feels rushed. A piece of land that has held my family for generations, where muddy boots replace hurry and tending something living brings me back into my body. The work here is quiet and honest. Clearing beds. Planting seeds. Letting things take the time they need. The farm is not an escape from real life. It is how I stay grounded in it. It reminds me that growth does not have to be frantic to be meaningful, and that a beautiful life is built in small, repeated moments of care. Forest Girl Farm is where I breathe, where I notice, where I remember what matters. It is my pause in the middle of a very full life.
