Welcome to Bits n Bobs! My name is Sabrina Pierce Contreras, and I am the founder, creator, and driving force behind this project. I am a mom of four, a gardener, and a lifelong crafter living in Aptos, California. Creativity has always been woven into my life, not just as a hobby but as a way of seeing the world.

I grew up on a family compound surrounded by redwoods, where I learned early on the value of making things by hand, finding purpose in what others might discard, and turning scraps into something meaningful. That upbringing instilled in me a deep respect for both sustainability and creativity, two values that now form the foundation of Bits n Bobs.

For as long as I can remember, I have been the kind of person who saves buttons, fabric, ribbons, and jars of odds and ends, always seeing their potential for something new. I know firsthand the joy of creating without limits, the challenge of stretching a budget, and the satisfaction of reducing waste. These experiences have given me not only the skills but the vision to build a resource that Santa Cruz County truly needs.

Bits n Bobs grew from my belief that creativity should be accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford brand-new supplies. What began as a simple idea to collect and share materials has grown into a larger mission: to create a permanent creative reuse shop where artists, families, teachers, and hobby hoppers can find inspiration, connect with community, and make something extraordinary out of what might otherwise be thrown away.

Bits n Bobs is not only my vision, it belongs to the people who will make it thrive. It is the teachers who need affordable classroom supplies. It is the parents who want to spark creativity in their children without breaking the bank. It is the artists who find inspiration in unusual, secondhand materials. And it is the hobby hoppers of every age who love to try new crafts without the high cost of starting from scratch. These are the people who will breathe life into this project, and they are the reason I am committed to building it.

I am deeply rooted in this place and passionate about bringing this vision to life. With my background as a mother, maker, and community builder, I am ready to lead Bits n Bobs into becoming a hub of creativity and sustainability for Santa Cruz County, a place where leftovers become possibilities and where imagination is available to everyone.

Why Santa Cruz Needs Bits n Bobs

Santa Cruz is a place full of makers, artists, families, and hobby hoppers who love to create, but access to affordable supplies can be a challenge. Craft stores are often expensive, and many people are hesitant to invest in new hobbies because the cost adds up so quickly. At the same time, closets, garages, and classrooms across the county are overflowing with unused supplies that often end up in the landfill.

Bits n Bobs bridges that gap. By collecting and redistributing materials, we make it easier for teachers to stock their classrooms, for parents to inspire their kids, for artists to experiment, and for retirees to rediscover their creativity. We give supplies a second life while making creativity accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Our Vision for the Future

Bits n Bobs is just getting started, but our vision is clear:

  • A permanent creative reuse shop stocked with donated craft supplies, making materials affordable and accessible for all.

  • A community hub where people can discover inspiration, learn new skills, and connect through creativity.

  • A movement of sustainability that keeps usable materials out of the landfill and proves that waste can become possibility.

Bits n Bobs is about more than crafting. It is about connection. It is about turning bits of unused materials into opportunities, and bobs of creativity into something beautiful, useful, and impactful. With your support, we can build a place where creativity flourishes, waste is reduced, and everyone feels empowered to make something meaningful.

Thank you for being part of the Bits n Bobs story. This is only the beginning.
